How this works

The forecast is the National Weather Service's, for the place your ZIP code covers, and it is refreshed every hour.

The coolest daylight hours are the three hours between sunrise and sunset with the lowest forecast temperature.

Rain shows the hours with a 50% or higher chance of rain. Thunder uses the Service's own words: a chance of thunderstorms from 25%, thunderstorms likely from 55%. Some forecast offices do not publish a chance of thunder, and the page says so when yours does not.

Official watches, warnings and advisories show by their title with a link to weather.gov. We never shorten or explain them.

Questions

Does it tell me when to walk my dog?

No. It shows the forecast's own numbers, so you can pick the hours that suit your dog and your day.

Do you keep my ZIP code?

No. It is sent to our weather service to look up the forecast and is not kept with anything about you. It stays in the page's address, so you can bookmark your forecast.

Why is there no thunder line?

Not every National Weather Service office publishes a chance of thunder. When yours does not, the page says so instead of showing zero.
